Living Bigger

From our Motiv8ing Ideas Archive

The essayist, poet and practical philosopher Henry David Thoreau said

'I know of no more encouraging fact than
the unquestionable ability of man to elevate
his life by conscious endeavour'.

Each of us has phenomenal potential within us to learn more, think more, do more, contribute more, personally grow and achieve more than we have allowed ourselves to do so far.

A lot of the time it's ourselves who put the limits on ourselves!

'I'm too old to...'

'I'm not experienced enough to...'

'When the kids start school I'll...'

'It'll be hard to...'

and so on....

These end up being blockages, barriers and limitations to the release of the untapped potential that we do have within us.

In order to capitalize on our potential, we need to constantly detect our self-imposed limits, challenge them, contradict them and take conscious action to prove the limits to be invalid.

Here are some areas worth considering for living in a BIGGER way:

  • career
  • skills and knowledge
  • value I add to the company I work for
  • time and attention I give to family and friends
  • active contribution I make to community/church
  • talents I use to help those less fortunate than me
  • discipline I apply in looking after my own health.

"Considering" these is OK, doing something bigger is what matters!
