New year Resolutions

From our Motiv8ing Ideas Archive

...in November??? Yes, because this is a great time to spend some quality time putting next year's plans, goals and commitments in shape. So before the festive season absorbs our time and energy, and instead of the usual last-minute (often around midnight on 31 December!) hastily put-together "resolutions", let's try to give these future-shaping matters the time and energy they deserve! Then the New Year chimes can be used as the "starting gun" for taking the actions to make our considered plans happen. What should be considered when planning for a New Year?...well, here's a list of some that'll I'll be including at this stage of my planning...

  • what am I going to do differently in my work-life?
  • what new skills and knowledge will I acquire?
  • how will I add more value to the company I work for?
  • what will I do to hit the right balance of the time and attention I give to family and friends?
  • what will I do to make a more active contribution to my community/church?
  • what am I going to do to help those less fortunate than me?
  • what am I going to do to look after my health better?

Prioritising, setting time targets, identifying personal incentives for each of the objectives, and writing them down are all important next steps in this planning process. It also really helps to share and discuss plans, goals and resolutions with anyone whose support will be important towards their achievement. Our LifeDesign resources are designed to help the process of planning for the future. In addition, they generate the confidence and commitment to make these plans a reality! Check out our LifeDesign resources (we even have a workshop exclusively for committed partners!).
