Together

"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things,
but just look at what they can do when they stick together!"

Vesta Kelly

Have you noticed how loyalty and trust have been declining over the past decade? In our world at large, there appears to be more suspicion, less trust, nation-to-nation. At an employment level, job security has just about disappeared, and quite naturally, "company loyalty" has taken on a new meaning. At a consumer level today, we're more likely than ever before to change suppliers and switch brands. At a personal relationship level, divorce is on the increase, and more couples are choosing to stop short of making a marriage commitment.

Less loyalty - less trust - less commitment...the consequence?...more self-preservation. And regrettably, that brings it's own bag of problems: blame, lack of communication, less caring, less sharing, etc., etc.

Instead - and hence the topic for this month - let's start looking more outwardly, let's get into the habit of thinking more about "together" rather than "me alone".
Inter-dependence works better than independence. It achieves more, feels less stressful, breaks down barriers, increases trust, increases understanding and tolerance, increases our capability to deal with difficult situations, adds to our joy of achievement, and, of course, it strengthens bonds. Solitude and self-preservation do the opposite.

So who can we be more "together" with? Perhaps it's our family, our friends, our employer, our church, our community, our service providers. They'll appreciate it.

Remember, however, to make "together" work, involves a commitment to let go of lots of "self"!

"Coming together is a beginning;
keeping together is progress;
working together is success."

Henry Ford
